I was watching a video on YouTube today of a woman who was singing and playing piano at the same time, and the first thought that popped into my head was, “It would be amazing to live my life as a concert pianist.” Many of us watch movies on TV about other people who’s lives appear to be more excited than ours, as we go to our 9-5 jobs everyday constantly wanted a way to escape from reality. While I was watching that YouTube video today, random thoughts popped into my head, which I believe align with what’s in my heart; singing, worshipping, playing piano, traveling back to France and Africa, writing new books, missionary work, empowering people in their spiritual gifts, etc.

I quickly realized that none of the thoughts that popped into my head had anything to do with a structured schedule. While I do believe that structure is important, sometimes it takes organized chaos for God to get our attention. We don’t come alive by doing things that simply help us to survive, like going to work, paying bills, being nice people in our communities, etc, but we come alive by going after unstructured dreams that scare the crap out of us. Having a plan for our lives helps us to become the creative person God created us to be. Why escape from reality by running to creativity when you can live a life of creativity that becomes your reality?

We were all created to live a legacy, but I believe the one’s that actually live a legacy are the ones that are creative thinkers. If it doesn’t exist, creative it. If people say it can’t be done, do it. Faith awakens what disappointment puts to rest. When I published my first book, one of my friends got sick right before we recorded the promotional video, another friend who was helping me with printing services had both of their printers break down at the same time, and they got fired for an unrelated issue, my publishers computer system got a virus for the first time in their company history right before they printed my books, and when they did print the books, they were an old draft and had to be redone.

When my book finally got published, while it wasn’t a best seller, it did sell to many people in my Sacramento community, it sold to people on the east coast that I’ve never met, it sold as an ebook to someone in France, to a few people in Germany, and to a few people in the UK. There’s nothing powerful about doing the same thing that everybody else is doing, if you want to make a difference, you have to step outside the box, you have to think in a way that most people don’t think, and you have to surround yourself with other creative thinkers who also want to make an impact on the earth. There is only one person like you in the entire world, there has never been anyone like you, and there will never be anyone like you again. God didn’t create you to just wait on Earth to get to Heaven, but He created you to bring Heaven to the Earth in a way that only you can do.

You were created for passion, you were created for adventure, you were created for intimacy with people, you were created to think outside the box, you were created to change the world for the sake of the world. It doesn’t matter how young you are or how old you are, if you’re still breathing, you have a destiny to fulfill that will start with this generation and impact the next. Don’t wait another day to step into what God created to step into. With a plan there’s a vision, and when there’s a vision there’s hope, and hope sprouts a tree of life that brings desires fully into realization. When desire becomes realized, it creates a reality that awakens the dreams legacies are made of. If you want to live a legacy, you have to create a legacy worth living for.
